the standalone version of tree used for installations is generating midi data. this midi data directly corresponds to the build trees. when a new node of the tree is painted, a midi note is given out. the height of that note depends on height of the drawn node in relation to the height of the complete tree. so the highest node of the tree triggers the highest note. the x and y position of the drawn node are put out as controller data.

with the midi output of tree you can trigger every available midi source. at clubtransmediale for example tree was triggering kontakt a software sampler of nativeinstruments. kontakt was running on a second laptop. the incoming midi notes triggered different sound sets. the controller values controlled different parameters of the sets to achieve more variation in sound.

as you can here in the following examples tree puts out stockhausen like melodies, which seems both abstract but human.
